Registration Help

Please contact your USA Swimming member club for its OMR registration link. If you need help creating a login account in SWIMS, renewing an existing membership, transferring your club affiliation to a new club, or adding a "Coach" membership to your existing membership, please click here for Registration help topics.

Coaches (including Junior Coach and Provisional Coach) must complete all requirements based on the Coach membership type BEFORE they begin working as a Coach. For a list of requirements for the different Coach memberships, click here. For a list of acceptable Coach safety training certifications, click here. Coaches should email the CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches (online & in-water), and Concussion Protocol Training certificates to [email protected]. All other tests will update automatically in your SWIMS account.

  • Junior Coaches must be enrolled in high school and ages 16-17. Junior Coaches must be under the direct supervision of a certified USAS Coach member at all times.
  • Provisional Coaches can be new Coach members or coaches with at least a one-year lapse in their previous Coach membership. Provisional Coaches are limited to a three-year term. After three years, Provisional Coaches must become Coach members to continue coaching. Each Provisional Coach member must be directly supervised by a Coach member who is in good standing (one-to-one supervision).
  • Note: The Junior Coach and Provisional Coach membership types are not offered by all clubs.

Safety Training for Swim Coaches - In-Water Skills Test

If you have a valid Lifeguard Certification from one of the accredited agencies listed on the In-Water Skills Checklist, you can submit your certificate and it will count as your in-water Safety Training for Swim Coaches certificates.

If you do not have a Lifeguard Certification, you can demonstrate the skills on the In-Water Skills Checklist with a certified instructor from one of the agencies listed on the checklist. The coach must complete the American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only course, print the certificate, and present it during the skills demonstration. When you have finished the in-water test, be sure that the instructor has completed the section with his/her credentials, and then scan and email the completed form to [email protected].

Racing Starts

Any swimmer entered in a swim meet who is unaccompanied by a USA Swimming member coach must be certified by a USA Swimming member coach as being proficient in performing a racing start or must start each race from within the water. This signed form may be submitted with the meet entry or taken to the meet for unattached and/or unaccompanied swimmers attending sanctioned swim meets. Without a Racing Start Certification, the athlete must start in the water. It is the responsibility of the swimmer or the swimmer’s legal guardian to ensure compliance with this requirement.
